Priory Infant School

Attendance

Coming to school every day really makes a difference!

Your child’s education is very important.  Attendance habits established when they are very young can affect our children for life.  Going to school every day means:

  • Having lots of fun
  • Making Friends
  • Taking part in exciting activities
  • Time to play
  • Building lasting relationships
  • Helping to have the best possible start in life

Regular school attendance helps learners fulfil their potential and gives them a chance of a better future.

Attending school every day and arriving on time from nursery onwards will help give your child the best possible start in life.

As parents we all want the best for our children.  Helping them to attend school regularly is an important part of this.

Parents are responsible for making sure their child attends school every day. Your child should only be absent from school because of illness and parents are asked to ring/leave a message on the first day of absence to inform us of the child's illness and when they are likely to return to school. If we don’t hear from you, the school office will phone you or text you to ask why your child is not in school.

Holidays in term time will not be authorised.

We make every effort to foster and maintain good home/school relationships, and discussions about any problems parents may have in getting their child to attend school will be sympathetically dealt with.

The staff and governors place great emphasis on the importance of regular attendance and punctuality. Being on time is crucial. If your child is late, they miss their settling activity; they miss the chat with the teacher and their friend; they miss the beginning of the input – and are without any fault of their own behind and having to catch up. Arriving late interrupts your child’s routine as well as the whole class and makes a poor start to the day for all the children.

If you are concerned about your child’s attendance please contact the Headteacher.  By working together we can provide your child with the best possible start in life.
