Priory Infant School

History

We teach history through topic work to provide children with the opportunity to learn about real people and real events which happened in the past. It enables children to explore and understand sequence, time and chronology alongside the study of facts and provides an opportunity to discover how the past has influenced the present.

Through our history teaching, we aim to inspire our children to develop curiosity about the past and its people. Children learn about significant individuals and events from the past and are be able to use this knowledge to appreciate how society has changed over time. In order to do this, we study photographs and artefacts, listen to videos and stories, take part in role play, and interview visitors.

Much of our history work lends itself to visits, visitors and creative activities. We hold themed days where children have the opportunity to fully experience historical events and periods.
