This term Purple Class have thoroughly enjoyed their topic ‘Growing’ and it has been amazing to watch how hands on learning has supported their understanding of how plants and insects grow. We started the term by reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and the children were given their very own bean seed to grow. We spoke about what plants need to grow and once we started to see the plants germinating, the children were able to talk about the changes that they noticed and shared their thoughts with the class. We have also grown cress this term which was a great opportunity to talk about the differences we could see between the growth of our bean plants and our cress. Finally, we have had some very special visitors in our classroom, our caterpillars! The children have learnt about the life cycle of a caterpillar and they have loved observing the changes and talking to their peers about what they think will happen next.
