Term 5 Highlights
This term, our topic was Celebrating Self, and we explored what makes each of us unique and special. In Literacy, we enjoyed the story So Much, using it to explore themes of identity, belonging and kindness. We developed our phonics, reading and early writing skills through a range of exciting activities. In Maths, we focused on numbers to 10, counting forwards and backwards, finding missing numbers and exploring one more and one less through practical games and challenges. In Understanding the World, we explored maps, learned about past and present, discovered more about Eid, enjoyed baking biscuits and developed our computing skills by using a mouse independently. In Expressive Arts and Design, we worked with clay and enjoyed junk modelling projects, using our creativity to design and make a range of models. In Physical Development, we developed our throwing and catching skills and began preparing for Sports Day through a variety of fun physical activities. We also enjoyed an amazing trip to Manor House Forest School.

Term 4 Highlights
This term in Reception, our learning has centred around our topic Sowing a Seed, where the children have explored the wonders of growth and new life. Through stories such as The Tiny Seed and The Extraordinary Gardner, they have developed their storytelling skills by retelling familiar tales and discussing what happens next. In Maths, the children have built confidence with numbers to 10, practising counting, subitising and comparing quantities, as well as exploring patterns and learning about one more and one less. Our Understanding the World learning has focused on the changing season of spring, where the children have observed their environment, planted seeds and learned how to care for living things and our planet. In Expressive Arts and Design, they have enjoyed creating seasonal artwork, painting and crafting, alongside exploring music and movement. In PE, the children have developed their balance, coordination and teamwork through a range of physical activities, while continuing to strengthen their fine motor skills to support early writing and independence.

Term 3 Highlights
This term in Reception, the children settled beautifully into their new open-plan learning environment and have enjoyed learning and exploring together. In Literacy, we read The Magic Paintbrush and Super Milly and the Super School Day, and the children were excited to visit Ramsgate Library where they listened to and explored a range of stories. They observed seasonal changes in our outdoor area and especially loved investigating the ice during colder days. In Maths, the children counted objects to 5, practised subitising, explored one more and one less, and compared quantities using key vocabulary. They also developed their movement skills in PE, strengthened their fine motor skills, took part in simple science learning, and expressed themselves creatively through art, music and play.

Term 2 Highlights
This term in Reception, we have been busy developing our independence, communication and confidence through a wide range of practical and play-based learning. The children have been practising turn-taking and sharing through games, strengthening their fine and gross motor skills both indoors and outdoors, and exploring our outdoor area using trikes and scooters. In Literacy, we have enjoyed sharing a range of stories, including Look Up!, I Am Henry Finch and The Snowman, while continuing to develop early reading and writing skills. In Maths, we have focused on counting, comparing quantities, exploring how numbers are made and counting beyond 20. Our topic, Knowing Yourself, has supported children in talking about special events, celebrations and how they have grown and changed. We have also explored seasonal changes, simple maps, light and dark, and enjoyed getting creative through art, music and Christmas preparations.

Term 1 Highlights
What an amazing start to the school year! 🌟
Our new Reception children have settled in brilliantly — making friends, learning our classroom rules and routines, and exploring all the exciting areas of our school. They’ve been curious and enthusiastic learners, beginning their reading journey through phonics and developing a real love for books.
It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they play, discover new skills, and become an important part of our school community. Term 1 has been full of laughter, learning, and big first steps — what a fantastic start to their school adventure! 🍎📚✨
