Highlights from Term 5
What a fun packed term it has been! In school we have been busy learning the rules of kickball, exploring materials through scientific investigations, and editing our own photos to make a photo story. Through Thrive and PSHE activities we have discussed why we have rules and how everyone is different. The term began with a trip to forest school, we then listened to a live orchestra at The Granville Theatre and finished the term with sporting celebrations at Christ Church Junior School.
Year 1 Term 5 Highlights
Highlights from Term 4
This term in Year 1, the children have enjoyed a rich and varied curriculum, supported by exciting whole-school events such as World Book Day, Science Week and Sports Values Day. In English, they explored imaginative texts including Stanley’s Stick and The Sea-Saw, developing their writing through sentences, questions and creative storytelling, as well as writing posters and diary entries. In Maths, the children strengthened their understanding of addition and subtraction within 20, before exploring place value to 50 and beginning to measure length, height, mass and capacity. In Science, they investigated and compared different animals, learning to group them based on their features and diets, and were inspired by the work of Jane Goodall. In History, the children explored toys from the past and how they have changed over time, while in RE they learned about celebrations and the importance of Easter. They also developed important life skills in PSHE by learning about keeping safe, alongside building their physical strength, coordination and teamwork in PE.
Term 4 Highlights
Highlights from Term 3
The term launched with the arrival of a visitor- Beegu! We saw her spaceship and caught sight of her on the CCTV. In D&T we made sock puppets, and these inspired our stories and poems. We kept a daily weather diary, the atlases in our book corners have helped us to learn the four countries of the Uk and the compass points. Author Greg Stobbs visited during National Storytelling Week and we helped him draw from his new book Isla and the Sky. The term finished off with a trip to Ramsgate library and a dodgeball tournament.
Year 1 Term 3
Highlights from Term 2
This term, the children took part in a wide range of learning across the curriculum. In English, they explored The Storm Whale and Stella and the Seagull, developing their writing through stories, letters and sequencing, before enjoying a whole-school focus on The Snowman. In Maths, they built confidence with addition and subtraction within 10, number bonds and fact families, as well as recognising and sorting 2D and 3D shapes. In Science, the children learned about everyday materials, investigating what objects are made from and their properties. They also explored the question “How am I making history?” in History and learned about the Nativity story and how Christians celebrate Christmas in RE. In PSHE, they focused on health and wellbeing, including good routines and personal hygiene. The children enjoyed developing dance skills in PE, experimenting with mark making and self-portraits in Art, and using computers to create digital artwork in Computing.

Highlights from Term 1
What a busy and exciting term it’s been!
In English, the children have been inspired by Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max. They explored a mysterious astronaut’s backpack, wrote in role as Astrid, and created their own leaflets about training to be an astronaut. Their enthusiasm for space travel has been out of this world! 🚀✨
In Maths, we’ve been exploring place value within 10 in lots of practical and hands-on ways. The children have used counters, cubes, and number cards to build, compare, and order numbers, helping them develop a strong understanding of what each number represents. 🔢⭐
In DT, the children designed and made their own windmills, learning how to build and support strong structures before evaluating their designs. 🌬️🌈
In Geography, we’ve been learning about where in the world we are. The children explored their classroom and school grounds, noticed what they could see around them, and shared their ideas about our playground and local environment. 🌍🏫
In Science, we’ve been learning about the seasons and the weather. The children have been observing changes outside, talking about different types of weather, and thinking about how the seasons affect what we wear and do. ☀️🍂🌧️❄️
It’s been a wonderful term of creativity, exploration, and discovery — we’re so proud of all the children’s hard work and enthusiasm! 🌟
