Pupils Show Determination at Priory Infant School’s First Sports Values Day
Priory Infant School pupils have been showing their determination during a special new event celebrating one of the school’s key Sports Values. The day encouraged all children to stay active, persevere, and support one another as they took on a series of fun fitness challenges.
Pupils laced up their trainers and embraced the spirit of determination during the school’s first-ever Sports Values Day. The event highlighted the importance of fitness, perseverance, and healthy living, encouraging children to stay active both in and out of school.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in a variety of fun, fitness-based challenges designed to test their stamina, teamwork, and determination. Activities included the Mile Long School Challenge, an Obstacle Course, a Skipping Challenge, and a Jumping Challenge, with certificates awarded to top performers.
Each year group also presented a special Determination Medal to a pupil who had demonstrated exceptional effort, resilience, and positivity.
Headteacher Mrs Sellwood praised the pupils’ enthusiasm and commitment, saying:
“It was wonderful to see every child giving their best and supporting one another. The theme of determination really shone through in everything they did, and it’s a value we hope they’ll carry with them well beyond the sports field.”
Determination is one of Priory Infant School’s six key Sports Values, alongside respect, honesty, passion, teamwork, and self-belief. Each value will be celebrated through its own dedicated Sports Values Day over the school year, giving pupils opportunities to explore and demonstrate the importance of each one through engaging activities and challenges.
The day was organised by Mr Holmes, who ensured every pupil had the chance to take part, stay active, and have fun. The whole school community extended a heartfelt thank-you to him for planning such a successful and inspiring event.
The first Sports Values Day proved to be a great success, leaving pupils motivated, energised, and proud of their achievements — both individually and as a team.

Priory Infants hosted an exciting Multi-Sport Festival for Year 2 children.
14 children from Priory Infants proudly represented the school and took part in a series of activities including skittles and dodgeball. For most of these children it was the first time that they had participated in an inter-school sports event and they all did extremely well. They demonstrated self-belief and determination to do their very best and all the children were successful in scoring points in the process of developing their fundamental movement and ball skills. It was clear to see the children become more confident throughout the festival and most importantly everyone had fun!
All the children received a Multi-Sport Champion certificate for their tremendous efforts!

On Thursday 6th March, Priory Infant School hosted the annual Thanet Passport Coola-to-Hoola Festival, where six local schools came together to share an afternoon of hula-hooping activities. The festival provided an opportunity for the children to take part in lots of fun activities, as well as develop their understanding of the importance of leading healthy, active lifestyles.
The children competed in a series of fun activities, some of which were individual events and others that were team events. These included classic hula-hooping, hoop skipping, hoop rolling, hoop tossing, and fun games, such as ‘crossing the swamp’.
The children had all been practising during their playtimes demonstrating their desire to improve and achieve. It was fantastic to see their passion and determination, as they confidently tackled each activity, achieving some incredible individual and team results. The concentration on their faces was matched with beaming smiles, as a sense of pride was clearly evident and most importantly everyone was having FUN!
Mr Holmes was exceptionally proud of the children who represented Priory Infants and the medals presented to them at the end of the festival were well-deserved.
